2 weeks into the season, 4 weeks into life.

So 13 games in the season, the Fightins are 9-4. I'll take it. Blanton has been god awful, and it's not just because he's lined up against 4 beauty queens. His ball looks flat with no movement. It's still early, but you just don't want to see this continue. Oswalt's back might be an issue after he was pulled by Manuel tonight to start the 7th because of back soreness. You wonder what the over/under is for a Vance Worley sighting +/-30 days?

Jameson has been great. We think he's really starting to understand this whole "LIFE" thing. There's not much of a schedule there but it's slowly working that way. Lauren has been amazing, becoming a stronger and more confident mother everyday. It's amazing what she does on 3-4 hours of sleep. Jameson is gaining weight by the week. Not sure where he is now, but my guess is he's gotta be close to 9.5 or so.

Band of Horses/Cee Lo Green split 7"

Picked up this split 7" on one of our last getaway's before the baby arrived. Got this at The Soundgarden in Baltimore. I heard pretty solid reviews about this place and had it checked off as somewhere I wanted to stop before we headed home. The vinyl selection and size is decent, but pretty much on the higher side for pricing, seemed like a bunch of LP's were in the 13-17 dollar range, if not more. Now I did spend 17 dollars on a vinyl record there (Beach House - Teen Dream) but that's only because it was a double 180gram LP and came with a DVD. Anyway - I don't know the story of how this split came to be. I picked it up, not so much for the Band of Horses side (though a big fan) but really just to have Cee Lo's cover of probably my favorite BOH song. He turns it into his own while still keeping the melody. Check it out!

and just because I feel like it, here's another Band of Horses cover by Amber Wilson, as well as the original.

Sweep the 'Stros, Merle Haggard and Sleeping Baby Boy

Great start to the season. Don't remember the last time it started with a sweep. Usually it's an opening day loss to the Nats. This was a nice change of pace and it's great to see Howard go deep, especially in the first series. That first bomb is always filled with some anticipation, especially when talking about a guy like Ryan. It can be frustrating when it's a good 10-12 games into the season and you're still waiting on that first one. Benny Fran showed up this series too, going 6 for 13 with a homer, 4RBI's and 3 runs. Jayson who? 3-0........Next up, the fuckin Mets.

Name: Jameson Patrick
Interests: Sleeping, Peeing, Pooping, Sleeping, Breast Milk, Monkeys.

Momma just got a glider chair from Mee-Maw (sp?) to give her some comfort. He's now 2 weeks and 3 days old and obviously not doing much but sleeping and eating, but that's okay, he's got to get his rest.

Merle Haggard - It's All In The Movies

I started really digging into some country a couple months ago. I had always liked Cash and Patsy Cline and various 'alt-country' bands but that's where it ended. I don't ever want to be on of those people describes their taste as "everything but rap and country", pretty constricting. Released in '75, this is the type of album that really only sounds good on vinyl. It reminds me of something that would be playing on the jukebox at some dusty desolate establishment in the south. Maybe only one other patron at the bar and the bartender with a rag over his shoulder cleaning pint glasses. From other reviews I've read some put this as a bunch of filler, and while there may be some merit to that, there's a couple good ones on here and works well as a full album.

Opening Day

Role players stepped up - late game heroics by JMjr but before he was able to put the ball over Bourn's head, Ruiz, Valdez and Gload all did their part. Cliff Lee is welcomed back tonight.

Good Men Die Like Dogs - S/T 10"

GMDLD are a pop punk band from Tempe, AZ - I hear a real big East Bay/old Green Day/Pinhead Gunpowder sound with them and it works. The cover art is also pretty Cometbusy and with songs about dreams, traveling, and being broke the lyrical content doesn't sway far either. There's no new ground being covered here, but not every record is about breaking new ground. Take a formula and run with it. All there stuff is available for free at http://goodmendielikedogs.com/

Hello out there!

I started a blog! (eyeroll)

I wanted to start something to document my love for records, baseball (really all sports) and my life (my son, wife, life, friends, etc.) I hope to go through and review my whole record collection with thoughts, pictures and preview links. I'd also like to document the Phillies season this year as they work to get back to the World Series, and finally, my son Jameson Patrick was born on 3/18/2011 and as a new father I'm sure there shouldn't be a shortage of incidents, accidents, nuances and frankly amazingly great things to happen as a result of him. This is just a snapshot into my life, hopefully family can keep up with the little guy, music fans can appreciate and/or discover some great music and sports fans can read, respond and debate my views on various games and players. Or maybe no one will read and it'll be my personal journal, who knows!
